to stare at for a MONTH! Phew, sorry for the hiatus. I really thought that I would be able to post from the road but there was a constant imbalance in Free Time vs. Internet Connection. For example, I had loads of free time at our campsite in backwoods Canada, eh. And then, I had a great internet connection at Lisa's house (Lisa is my friend-with-5-kids...)
But, I'm home now so let's get back to business.
One of our stops on our month-long road trip was in New Jersey to visit my husband's family. My mother-in-law came downstairs the day we were leaving with Grandma Zak's (her mother) sewing basket. Grandma Zak was a prolific crocheter (clearly not a blood relative of mine) and talented seamstress. My mil still has her girlhood polish dancing costume on which her mother hand-stitched thousands of beads and sequence. And I have heard stories about Grandma Zak churning out baskets of doilies, dresses and huge afghans (of which we are lucky enough to have two) in a day or less. I wish I had been able to meet her (although I am glad she isn't around to witness my crochet skills). Anyway, my mil opened the sewing basket and started pulling out the most amazing vintage notions, ribbons and other goodies. Two of my favorites (which she gave to me!) were these amazing pin cushions. And look at that lace! And the clasp! That clasp definitely warrants a new bag design...
